Airkix Indoor Skydiving

Indoor Skydiving is not something that ever appealed to me. Now, that might have something to do with never wanting to jump out of a airplane, or the fact that I’m not great with heights. But ask the boys if they would like to have a go at indoor skydiving, and you’ve got yourself a different story.

Harrison is a bit of a YouTube Fan, and like most people that use it, he has his favourite channels. Of course, it goes without saying that he is under our supervision whilst watching his favourite channels (you just never know).

Anyway, one day, the children that he watches went indoor skydiving. And after watching the same few episodes a hundred times over, (as he does) that was it, he was hooked. It wasn’t long before we got the inevitable question, “Can I have a go at that?”

Out of the two boys, whilst Joshua stands on the side of caution, Harrison has always been the one to want to try new things. However, as we’ve discovered over the years, when the time comes, it’s Joshua that steps forward while Harrison sits back and watches.

Airkix Indoor Skydiving - About

Since we had no idea where our nearest Indoor Skydiving centre was, we turned to our trusted friend Google, for a little help. After a bit of research, watching YouTube videos and reading reviews, we decided to go with Airkix Indoor Skydiving. By luck, it turned out that our nearest Airkix Indoor Skydiving Centre is in Basingstoke, which is only an hour away from where we live.

We found booking on the website a little confusing, and because we hadn’t done this before, we just thought it was us. So, staying on the side of caution, I decided to call them the following morning and book by phone. Once the guy on the phone had explained the procedure, things became a lot clearer.

Airkix Indoor Skydiving - Prices

The price of the booking included half an hour of tuition (including a twenty minute video) and two, one minute sessions. Yes, you did read that right, two, one minute sessions!

Now, when we first heard that this was all the boys were getting, we thought this was a bit expensive. However, as they explained on the phone, this was the boys first turn. It was important for them to learn and listen to the instructor as to what they needed to do.

Turning up, getting changed, and being tutored in the wind tunnel may have been my vision of what was going to happen, but that was never on the agenda. And what’s more, once I’d seen the whole experience for the first time, it made sense.

So, how much will an Airkix experience cost?

There are quite a few packages, deals and offers, so as you can imagine, prices will relate to the package you choose. Their prices are also based on peak and off peak times, so please check your details are correct before paying your balance. Payment is required up front and is non-returnable.

Airkix Indoor Skydiving - Extras

As you know, businesses that are successful at marketing, will always offer extras, otherwise known in the retail trade as ‘add-ons.’ And Airkix are no different. In fact, we spent more on the day than what we did previous to our trip. But trust me, it was worth it.

Some of the extras that Airkix offered included…

  1. An extra go once your turn is up – For us, it was money well spent, because it wasn’t until their go that they were able to fly solo – all be it a full five seconds.
  2. Full tunnel experience – At the end of your session, the instructor will ask if you want to go the full height of the tunnel, under his/her supervision. As it was Harrison’s birthday, he was offered this for free but declined saying he would be scared! Those that did take the offer, came out saying how fantastic it was.
  3. Downloadable photo – If you go Indoor Skydiving with a friend that is sitting down and watching, I have no doubt they will be taking photos of the funny expressions that appear on your face. However, if all of your party is skydiving, then Airkix will take care of your photo moments.
  4. DVD of your Indoor Skydiving experience – The ultimate take home trophy of your day. Although I did use my phone on the day, as you can see from the video below, my camera is nowhere near the same quality as the DVD.

There are many other offers available from Airkix, but as with all these things, you’re better off waiting to see what offer suits you. Some, such as the photo or DVD, are included within the original price of your package.

Why not extend the memories of your trip by adding those photos onto items like Mugs, Calender’s or even phone covers?

Airkix Indoor Skydiving - Video

This is a video of the additional flight that was added on at the end. As you can see, Joshua was just getting the hang of it. Hopefully, when we go back back next time, he’ll be able to fly solo for a bit longer.

Oh! You’ve got to watch it to the end, no high fives, just a well deserved cuddle!

Airkix Indoor Skydiving - What the boys thought

Although I have written this post, as I mentioned before, I didn’t actually take part. For a truthful opinion of what they thought, it’s over to the boys…

You’ll need to pop back later, once I’ve managed to get them to sit still.

Why instructors dread asking young children questions

Instructor – “Any questions?”
Harrison – Puts his hand up.
Instructor – Points to Harrison and says (for the umpteen time), “Yes, Harrison?”
Harrison – “If we flap our arms hard enough, will we be able to fly high like a bird?”
Instructor – “No, Harrison. I’ll have hold of you at all times, whilst you’re in the tunnel.”
Harrison – “That’s good because I don’t want to fly high like a bird.”

Airkix Indoor Skydiving - What you'll need

All of the equipment that was needed for the boys Indoor Skydiving experience was provided by Airkix. However, before we were able to book, there were two conditions…

The first being, that those taking part had not suffered any shoulder injuries, including a dislocation.

Secondly, the boys had to make sure they wore lace up shoes on the day, no Velcro allowed! After explaining to the guy we were booking with that the boys did not own a pair of shoes that had laces, he told us that Airkix offer spare lace-up shoes for their customers.

I learnt that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

      Hi, Laura.

Airkix have three centres across the country. There might be one near you. Although the flights don’t last long in the beginning, you can book for as long as you want once you get better. Thanks for taking the time to leave your comment.

  • Haha love the flapping of the arms part like a bird….I think i would still do that even if we didn’t have to! 😉

    Looks great fun too! #ftmob

    • Martin

      Hi, Martyn.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. The boys seem to have had a great time, and they really enjoyed it. The best part is they’ve not tried getting me to join in, yet!

  • What an amazing experience and looked like so much fun from the video – love the hug your boys gave each other at the end of it too. Harrison’s question and the reason for asking it made me chuckle. Thanks for linking up to #ftmob 🙂

    • Martin

      Hi, Louise.

The hug at the end took us by surprise too. We thought they would give each other a high five but how wrong were we? They loved it and had a great time.

      Thanks for hosting #ftmob

  • I didn’t even know indoor skydiving was a thing! Love Harrison’s question – kids have the best questions! #ftmob

    • Martin

To be honest, nor did I until Harrison started watching it on YouTube. I just thought it was a place you practiced for full on skydiving. Regardless, it’s not for me!

Thanks for leaving your comment. #ftmob

  • Wow I had never even heard of this. Definitely not my cup of tea and mine are far too young yet but it does look like fun fir those who like that kind of thing! #KCACOLS

    • Martin

Thanks for your comment. Not really my cup of tea either but the boys really enjoyed themselves, and that’s what the day was about. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m not too keen on heights?

  • That sounds like so much fun! I want to have a go haha! Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday Xx

    • Martin

Thanks for leaving your comment. The boys had a wonderful day and I’d definitely recommend it for those that have the courage to do so. Good luck and let me know if you do!

      Thanks for co-hosting #KCACOLS

  • Oh how totally awesome was that. The boys did so brilliantly! I showed Ella the video clip and she was like ” WOW!! How can he fly like that?” Lol kids hey.xx #KCACOLS

    • Martin

Yes! We think the boys did well too. I’m thinking of putting up the other two videos so there’s some comparison as to how they were with their first go compared to their third go.

It was a great day out and I would certainly recommend it. Thanks for taking the time to leave your comment.
