Quotes Slider #2 – Support

This week’s inspirational quotes are dedicated to Childline as October the 29th saw them celebrate their 29th birthday. Seeing that most of these quotes have come from support groups, I thought it would be nice to recognise the importance of support, whether through groups, charities, family or even strangers.

This Week’s Topic – Support

In brief –

I have been a member of many support groups on Facebook for many years now, and while I realise that’it’s not for everybody, they’ve been a support in times of need. Here is a list of some of the quotes I have shared recently.

Please feel free to share if know of anybody they may help.

Slide 1 – The mind of a child is fragile. Their emotions touch their future. Your words shape their destiny.

From this quote, there are no truer words than ‘your words shape their destiny.’ If you grow up being told, “you’ll never achieve anything with your life”, you’ll find yourself fighting it, every single day of your adult life, until you achieve your goals.

Slide 2 – Forget what hurt you but never forget what it taught you.

Part one of this quote is rather hard to achieve, but part two is important, providing of course, that you don’t have the attitude ‘well it never done me any harm.’

Slide 3 – Brain Facts. Violent homes have the same effect on children’s brains as combat on soldiers.

How much of this is true, I have no idea, but if it’s true, either way, it’s not good news.

Slide 4 – If you don’t leave your past in the past, it will destroy your future. Live for what today has to offer, not for what yesterday has taken away.

This quote can be a battle. Anybody can write these words but sometimes, the reality is far more difficult than one can imagine. Yet, with that said, these words can ring true from time to time.

Slide 5You’ll end up really disappointed if you go through life thinking people will do for you as you do for them. Not everyone has the same heart as yours.

Over the years, I have found this so hard to accept. I’ve always tried to treat people how I would like to be treated by them, but alas, life just isn’t like that. But wouldn’t it be great if…?

Slide 6 – I speak out against child Sexual abuse and rape because I prefer to protect the innocent rather than the guilty. Your silence is their greatest weapon.

I thought long and hard about including this quote to this week’s quote slider. I added it purely because I know how important it is to speak up and put an end to the abuse that people suffer. You’re not going to be the only one, and if you can prevent it happening to somebody else, then it’s worth it.

However, Victims (survivors) of abuse are so, because they are groomed and led to believe it’s their fault. Of course, we all know they’re not, but they need to address this first before they are able to speak up. Just take your time, and when you’re ready, speak up. You’ll feel a whole lot better afterwards.

Slide 7 – Look in the mirror. That’s the person who can get you where you want to go!

Going through these terrible things as a child can really knock your self-confidence as an adult. I know there is only one person that can get me to where I want to be, I just need to be more confident and look in the mirror a bit more often!

Living with abuse isn’t easy, and when you have children, it becomes even harder to hide your emotions from them. You need to be strong, and tell them to stand up for themselves, yet secretly, you know it’s something you wish you could do yourself.

Childline is one of those services that is a comfort to know it’s there for children that need it. Yet none of us hopes that our kids will ever need to use it. But whether they do or don’t need it, one thing is for sure, we’ll be there for them if they do.

Happy birthday, Childline, celebrating 29 invaluable years.

  • Slide 1 yes! I came across that a few days ago and in fact shared on my Facebook page. These are all so good and one or two are very similar to what I linked to #candidcuddles this week too. Great mind think alike! (Or they’re just really universally crucial lessons.) Thanks for sharing this. Enjoyed it.

Thanks for leaving your comment. I Saw your post on #candidcuddles this week and thought your quotes were very inspirational. Thank you for sharing, they were a great lift for a Monday morning.

Great minds think alike? I’ll go with that! Thanks for popping over from

  • Popping over from #candidcuddles =) A quote that should be plastered somewhere every adult can see. I think that my lack of having children is in part on how frail they are, in body and mind. That scares me. I’m not ready to be responsible for that. Come share your crafts, DIY’s, recipes & up-cycle posts at #2usestuesday (Mon PM to Fri PM) & your latest & greatest Pinterest pins at #Pinbellish (Fri AM to Tues AM) over at Sarah Celebrates if you don’t already!

      Hi, Sarah.

Thanks for popping over and taking the time to leave a comment. We used to think we were never ready for kids, then eight years passed us by! To be truthful, when is a good time, and who is ever ready to have them? These moments can’t really be planned. Because if you do have them, each day will bring a new challenge. Good luck.

Thanks for popping over from #candidcuddles

What inspiring and uplifting quotes – thank you so much for sharing them! I particular love your one about the person in the mirror and completely agree. Yes, others can help us but whatever we want to achieve in life is down to us to make it happen 🙂 Thanks so much for linking up to #KCACOLS and hope to see you back next Sunday! Mim x

    • Martin

      Hi, Mim.

Thanks for leaving your comment and popping over from #KCACOLS.

I put the last one on to try and inspire myself! I’ve really struggled with it in the past, but I know there is a positive message there somewhere. People don’t realise you have to learn from mistakes, whilst never giving up.

Some people think success comes overnight, and that’s why they give up. This time next year…!

Thank you for your comment, it’s much appreciated.

  • Wow, what a significant group of quotes this week Martin. Childline is such an important service & your quotes really highlight the need for children to have a safe place to turn to if they need it. Thanks so much for sharing your quote with #candidcuddles x

      Hi, Becky.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your comment.

I have so many of these quotes of support over the years. They are a great inspiration at times of trouble and reassuring to know you are not alone.
Childline has done some fantastic work over the years and it’s great to know there is independent help for those that feel they cannot go to the authorities.

      Thanks for hosting #candidcuddles

  • Oh I love this Martin!!! All these quotes are really significant and they will really help others to understand that we are not alone and that there is support for us if we need some. Each quote has special and important meaning soI can really choose a favourite. They are important in their own way So I agree with all of them. Great post!! Thanks so much for joining me at #KCACOLS. I hope you join me again tomorrow. 🙂 xx

      Hi, Franca.

Thanks for popping over. I couldn’t agree with you more! There are some great quotes here and in fact, I had quite a dilemma trying to whittle my choices down to seven.

Childline (and other charities) are so, so important, but I have to say, it’s one of those strange services – We’re grateful for its existence, yet hope none of our kids will ever need it, but know there’ll be outcry should it go.

Thanks for your comment, it’s much appreciated. #KCACOLS

  • This is a fantastic cause to stand for. To help others, to help heal them. The first quote is my favorite…

“The mind of a child is fragile. Their emotions touch their future. Your words shape their destiny.”

I love this. It is so true, children are like sponges, they take things in and hold them. If when you wring out their sponge and see all good things seep out, that would be PRICELESS!!!

I need to remember that as I act, think and do. They pick up everything, don’t they?

    • Martin

      Hi, Nikki.

      I hope all is well.

I almost didn’t include the first quote because I didn’t like the picture. But then I thought ‘actually, whoever put these two together, did so for a reason. They are designed to work hand in hand to get a message across. Besides that, it has rang true with so many people, so I’m glad I did.

You only have to watch / listen to your own children to realise how easy they pick these things up. As an adult and a parent, I try to ensure our boys are able to grow up in an environment that won’t create the same issues I have, as an adult.

Let’s not also forget ‘Todays children are tomorrows future.’

Thanks for stopping by. #candidcudlles or #KCACOLS

  • A lovely set of inspirational quotes. I especially like the the one about silence being a secret weapon, so many injustices! x

    • Martin

      Hi, Lisa.

I’m glad you found them inspirational. Please feel free to share them. I have found using quotes like these to get a message across, really helps help those that need it.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.
